Sunrise Pools had a new logo created for their business card and other marketing materials and needed this fresh new look incorporated across their website. Along with the new look, Janine Bellifemine – Director of Sunrise Pools, wanted the flexibility to be able to update certain areas of the site in-house herself or by her staff.
With the existing site having an extensive gallery that had grown over 10-years, the move from a static, table-based HTML site to a Content Management System (CMS) was a challenge. Re-working of old images and content from over 100 pages required a full content inventory and an effective planning process. We not only needed to give the site a fresh new look but also provide a better experience for their visitors on smartphones and tablets with a smaller screen size, we needed to switch the exisitng site to a robust framework CMS for efficient future updates as well as provide a self-managed option.
As the original web designers and maintainers of the Sunrise Pools website we fully understood the requirements of this re-design. With a complete understanding of the goals that Janine had outlined we went ahead and made Drupal a key factor in the success of this job. Our decision was based on the flexibility Drupal allows; not only in the design but also the underlying structure. In the backend we needed to store all the content by specific types. We then needed to fetch content from the database and present it to the user inline with the new Sunrise logo and branding. Using Drupal allowed us to create custom content types, taxonomies and term references, conditional field references and filters. All of this enabled the dynamic generation of each of the galleries which include pool/spa specific details such as Style, Size, Coping and write-ups.
Matching the design of the new Sunrise Pools flyer was made simpler with the use of Google Fonts extensive font gallery. Incorporating the colours, graphical elements and font styling helped uphold the integrity of the new branding for Sunrise Pools.
Once the design was in place we incorporated it into a custom theme that was device adaptive making it responsive to screen size (desktop, tablet, phone).
META information and Search Engine Optimization SEO was undertaken as a priority to ensure that the high rankings continued despite the underlying site structural change.
The benefits of using a CMS like Drupal not only gives us the basic tools to build a site completely tailored to our customer it also provides a system by which Janine and her staff can work within and manage as required.
Janine can now update content such as the Home page, Awards, and Client References when required. This reduces the cost of regular small site changes or the delay in updating while waiting for a volume of content to make it feasible.
The site looks great and is exactly what we were after [and] I am excited about doing our own updates.
